What is a Breast Lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate and reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This procedure is particularly beneficial for women experiencing sagging due to factors such as aging, weight fluctuations, or pregnancy. The goal is to restore a youthful contour and improve breast symmetry, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Depending on the patient's needs and desired outcomes, Dr. Henry uses a variety techniques including different incision patterns that allow for optimal repositioning of the nipple-areolar complex and enhancement of breast volume.

Breast Lift with Implants

Combining a mastopexy (breast lift) with breast augmentation can offer several benefits for patients seeking to enhance their breast appearance. This dual procedure allows for the correction of sagging breast tissue while simultaneously adding volume, resulting in a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing silhouette. By undergoing both surgeries at once, patients can minimize their overall recovery time, as they will only need to go through one surgical procedure and one recovery period instead of two separate ones.

Dr. Henry has perfected this approach to breast surgery which can lead to more harmonious and balanced results, as the lift can effectively reposition the breasts while the augmentation provides desired fullness. Ultimately, the combination offers a synergistic effect that leads to greater satisfaction with the final outcome.

What are the different types of incision for Breast Lifts?

Example cartoon picture of donut lift surgery

Donut Lift

The donut lift, also known as the "periareolar lift" involves an incision around the areola, allowing for minimal scarring and a subtle lift, making it suitable for patients with mild sagging

Lollipop Lift

The lollipop lift involves the periareolar incision along with a vertical incision from the areola down to the breast fold, providing more lift than the donut lift while still maintaining a relatively discreet scar, ideal for moderate sagging

Inverted-T Lift

The Inverted-T lift, also known as an "Anchor lift" includes the periareolar incision, the vertical incision, and a horizontal incision along the breast fold, offering maximum lift and reshaping for patients with significant sagging or excess skin

Recovery and Expectations Following Surgery

Dr. Henry will be available every step of the way on each patient's surgical journey to ensure proper healing and to provide support.  Typically, patients can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort during the first week post-surgery.

Dr. Henry recommends taking at least 1 week off work, longer for more physically demanding jobs.  Light workouts can usually be resumed after 1-2 weeks, but more strenuous exercise should be avoided for about 4 to 6 weeks.

Patients are encouraged to wear a supportive bra and avoid lifting heavy objects during the early recovery phase to ensure optimal healing and results.

Patient's can expect incisions to heal in 4-6 weeks, but they may be red or dark for up 6-12 months, depending on each individual patient.

Dr Henry likes frequent follow-up appointments to monitor healing and address any concerns.
